Harris Faces Third Setback in Pennsylvania Polling Within a Week
Kamala Harris is facing a tough battle in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state. Recent polls indicate that Harris is trailing former President Donald Trump, with three separate surveys within a week showing Trump slightly ahead.
This unexpected shift has raised concerns within the Harris campaign as Pennsylvania holds 19 vital Electoral College votes.
A Close Race with High Stakes
The latest poll from Insider Advantage, conducted between August 18 and 19, shows Trump leading Harris by a razor-thin margin of 0.6 points.
The poll surveyed 800 likely voters, revealing a tight race with Trump at 46.6 percent and Harris at 46 percent. The margin of error is 3 percent, making this a statistical dead heat.
Earlier Polls Echo Similar Results
Two additional polls, conducted by Cygnal and Emerson College between August 13 and 15, also showed Trump with a slight edge over Harris. Both surveys indicated a 1-point lead for Trump, underscoring the challenge Harris faces in this battleground state.
With Pennsylvania flipping to Democrats in 2020, the current trend is particularly concerning for the Harris campaign.
Harris’ Average Lead Narrows
Despite these setbacks, a poll aggregator shows Harris still ahead of Trump on average, albeit by a shrinking margin.
As of August 19, Harris holds 46.2 percent to Trump’s 44.9 percent, down from a 2.3-point lead just a week earlier.
Glimmers of Hope in Alternate Polls
Not all polls spell bad news for Harris. A Focaldata poll, conducted between August 6 and 16, shows Harris leading Trump by 1 point when third-party candidates are included.
Among registered voters, she extends her lead to 3 points, with 49 percent support to Trump’s 46 percent. This poll suggests that third-party candidates could play a decisive role.
Walz Joins Harris on the Campaign Trail
In response to the polling challenges, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, hit the road in Pennsylvania.
The duo campaigned together on August 18, visiting key areas in western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny and Beaver counties. The tour aimed to energize voters and strengthen their position in this critical state.
Rallying the Base in Pittsburgh
During the bus tour, Harris and Walz visited a campaign field office in Rochester, where they engaged with supporters and participated in a phone bank.
Walz emphasized the importance of the campaign’s message, telling the crowd, “When you know what you stand for, you know what to fight for.” The rallying cry was met with enthusiasm from the gathered supporters.
Connecting with Pennsylvania’s Working Class
Harris made a point to connect with Pennsylvania’s working-class voters during her visit. She stopped at a local firehouse in Aliquippa, where she presented the firefighters with a burnt almond torte, a specialty of the region.
Harris’ gesture was aimed at highlighting her commitment to working families and the values they hold dear.
A Warm Reception Amidst Challenges
The Harris campaign received a warm welcome in Pennsylvania, with crowds gathering at each stop on the tour. However, the presence of Trump supporters protesting outside some events underscored the polarized nature of the election.
Harris remained focused, telling reporters, “I feel like we need to earn every vote, and that means being on the road, being in communities where people are.”
Trump’s Counterattack in Pennsylvania
As Harris campaigned in western Pennsylvania, Trump held a rally in Wilkes-Barre, where he criticized her economic policies and claimed, “Inflation has been devastating under this group of people that have no idea what the hell they’re doing.”
The economy remains a central issue for voters, and Trump’s attacks resonate with many in this battleground state.
The Importance of Pennsylvania in 2024
Pennsylvania has been a pivotal state in recent presidential elections, and 2024 is no exception. Both Harris and Trump understand the significance of winning here, with their campaigns heavily focused on the state.
The outcome in Pennsylvania could very well determine the next president, making every poll, rally, and campaign stop that much more important.
Harris’ Path to Victory
Despite the recent setbacks, Harris is determined to fight for every vote in Pennsylvania. With the Democratic National Convention on the horizon, she plans to ramp up her campaign efforts.
As Harris and Walz continue their push in the state, they hope to reverse the polling trends and secure a victory in this must-win state.
