UFO Whistleblower’s Request for Protection Is a “Joke,” According to US Congressman
The former head of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, Lue Elizondo, has shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity. He claims he’s been threatened for advocating for UFO transparency and worries for his life.
Despite having protection, a close friend of the UFO whistleblower, Congressman Tim Burchett, warns the preventive measures to ensure the safety of people involved in the UAP program are a joke.
Former US Counterintelligence Agent Speaks Out
Luis Elizondo is a former U.S. Army counterintelligence special agent who was also employed by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense to work on intelligence projects.
The former intelligence officer also claims to have sat as a director of a secretive program known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, which aimed to investigate UFOs for the Pentagon.
AATIP Formed to Investigate Next-Gen Technologies
The AATIP program was reportedly started by the then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid back in 2009.
According to a report published by the Pentagon’s UFO-focused office, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), in March, the AATIP was formed to “investigate potential next-generation aerospace technologies.”
AARO’s Report on the AATIP Program
According to the AARO report, “Although investigating UFO/UAP was not specifically outlined in the contract’s statement of work, the selected private sector organization conducted UFO research.”
It continued, “This research included reviewing new cases and much older Project BLUE BOOK cases, operating debriefing and investigatory teams, and proposals to set up laboratories to examine any recovered UFO materials.”
Attempting to Gain Transparency
In an interview with the Washington Post, Elizondo revealed that he and his department provided many briefings, mostly through DOD and intelligence community leadership, to elected officials in Congress about the sightings reported by pilots.
However, the government has largely ignored or dismissed these briefings, providing a level of distrust between Elizondo and the government.
Only Three Explanations
“The bottom line is, up until very recently there were really only three possibilities of what this could be,” Elizondo said. “And the first possibility is that it is some sort of secret US tech that somehow, we have managed to keep secret even from ourselves for a long period of time. The second option is that it is some sort of foreign adversarial technology that has somehow managed to technology leapfrog ahead of our country despite having a fairly robust and comprehensive intelligence apparatus.
He continued: “And of course, the third option is something quite entirely different. It’s a different paradigm completely.”
Threats Made Against Elizondo
Despite his claims, which were backed up by former senator Harry Reid, the U.S. government and Pentagon officials have rapidly denied Elizondo’s claims.
Elizondo became a whistleblower in an attempt to promote better UFO transparency. Yet, according to Fox News, his actions have led to various threats against him and “several other whistleblowers formerly associated with the UAP [unidentified anomalous phenomena] effort for the U.S. Government.”
UFO Whistleblower Fears for His Life
In a statement to the “The Good Trouble Show,” Elizondo said, “I would like to make this perfectly clear to the American people. I am not prone to accidents. I am not suicidal. I am not abusing drugs. I am not engaged in any illicit activities.”
Appearing to fear for his life, he continued, “If something happens to me or my family members in the future, you will know what happened.”
What Is Whistleblower Protection?
The US Department of Justice offers protection to those who report what they reasonably believe to be evidence of waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement. These protection laws have been in place in the US since 1978.
While whistleblowing can serve as an important catalyst for reform, revealing the multinational, cross-border nature of the corruption, and highlighting failures of accountability and unwillingness of the government, some believe that Elizondo’s request for protection is a step too far.
U.S. Protection Is a Joke, Says Congressman
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., has played a significant role in the push for better UFO disclosure in the United States and is also a good friend of Elizondo.
Speaking on the personal protection provided by the U.S. government for UFO whistleblowers, Burchett said, “There is whistleblower protection, but it’s a joke, and we know it’s a joke.”
Congressman Attempts to Investigate the Origin of the Threats
According to the congressman, he met with Elizondo shortly after he was threatened. While the whistleblower had no idea who sent the threats, Burchett revealed the comments had angered his friend and left him “alarmed.”
“Lou is a dear friend of mine, and I take any threat against anybody seriously, especially against friends and somebody that has given so much to this country and to this issue [UFOs],” Burchett said.
Burchett Claims He’s Trying to Pursue Every Avenue
Going forward, Burchett will continue to investigate the threats and admits he will do all he can to ensure his friend remains safe.
“So, I’m very much aware of it, and I’m very much alarmed. I’m pursuing every avenue I can to get to the bottom of it,” said the congressman.
Threats Made Against Other UFO Whistleblowers
The threats aimed at Elizondo are just the latest in a long string of warnings issued to various UFO whistleblowers.
Last year, David Grusch testified to Congress, explaining dark figures had threatened his life. Grusch was also warned against speaking about the government UFO retrieval program he had previously been involved in.
Grusch Details Experience
During his testimony in open court, Grusch, a former U.S. intelligence officer and Air Force veteran, said, “I can’t get into the specifics in an open forum, but what I personally witnessed myself and my wife was very disturbing.”
“I’ve faced brutal, unfortunate tactics” of retribution, which he referred to as “administrative terrorism.”
“Never Wanted” to go Public
In an interview, Grusch said he “never wanted” to go public with his claims but did so “for the right reasons” to hold the government accountable for their actions.
In a June interview with NewsNation, Grush claimed that the US had recovered nonhuman crafts with nonhuman species inside. He took his information to Congress, demanding that the US government be transparent with their discoveries.
The Oversight Issues
Despite some people dismissing Grusch’s attempts to force the government to be more transparent, he rebutted stating that “this is not a laughing matter” because the US has a “severe oversight issue.”
“So I think we have a severe truth and reconciliation process we need to start in this country, and I am here to help the current administration, and I’m happy to help,” he said, adding that he wants to be a tool for change.
A Report Confirmed Some of Grusch’s Allegations
After the high-profile whistleblower allegations about planned programs for the retrieval and reverse-engineering of no-human aircraft through private contractors, the Pentagon released a report on unidentified flying objects and unidentified anomalous phenomena that Grusch had disclosed to the public.
While this report did confirm the allegations held some water, academic skeptics and disclosure advocates rebuked the report, saying it raised more questions than it answered.
Sowing Distrust
While Congress is still considering how to amend the defense bill to force disclosure of potential secret UFO programs, some House Republicans resisted transparency efforts, leading to the removal of the UAP disclosure measure.
A bipartisan group of House members has sounded the alarm that officials are stonewalling sitting lawmakers who try to receive information on UAPs.
Fear of Being a Whistleblower
Elizondo may have probable cause to believe that his life may be in danger as he attempts to call the US government out for its lack of transparency. Earlier this year, authorities found Boeing whistleblower John Barnett dead in the US.
According to the BBC, he opened a whistleblower lawsuit against the company and provided evidence for the case days before being found dead from a “self-inflicted” wound.
The Case of John Barnett
From 2010 until his retirement in 2017, Barnett uncovered some serious problems with the 787 Dreamliner, a state-of-the-art airliner used mainly on long-haul routes, including with the oxygen systems. During an emergency on the airliner, one in four breathing masks would not work.
After discussing the compromised safety measures in the rush to build new aircraft, the company allegedly denied the slow production.
The Mysterious Death of Barnett
After retiring, Barnett embarked on a long-running legal action against the company. He gave a formal deposition a week before his death, during which Boeing’s lawyers questioned him, and his counsel cross-examined him.
When he did not appear for further questioning later that week, authorities went to his hotel and found him deceased in his truck in the hotel car park.
Ending the Threat to Whistleblowers
In an op-ed for Newsweek, Mary Inman, Amber Scorah, and Jennifer Gibson call for the death toll of whistleblowing to end after Barnett’s mysterious and concerning death.
In their piece, the authors state that many citizens who want to call out companies or government entities for failing to be transparent or adhere to safety standards often don’t because they don’t know how and are terrified of the consequences.
A Rally Call
“We need, as a society, to protect the whistleblower on their journey. We’ve all heard of helplines for domestic abuse or child trafficking; there is no whistleblower helpline, except the “whistleblower hotlines” run by the HR departments of the very companies an employee is trying to expose. In our experience, no one is going to help you on that hotline,” the authors write.
They continue: “As a society, we need to find the funding to make this possible. We need to make information about whistleblowing and support for it ubiquitous. We need attorneys for whistleblowers who lack a case leading to a monetary reward but possess important information that makes the public safer and ensures powerful interests are held accountable.
Investigative Journalist Shares Thoughts on Report
The AARO report finished by suggesting there was no credible evidence of aliens, UFOs or secret government programs to investigate reverse engineering. This portion of the report left many experts and scientists outraged, as they argued it was incomplete.
Jeremy Corbell, an investigative journalist and pivotal figure in the fight for UFO transparency, shared his thoughts: “The historical review is an attempt to rewrite history and obscure the basic fundamental facts about the UFO phenomenon.”
